Every time you turn on your PC, a pile of programs quietly launches in the background.
Most of them you never asked for. Over time they slow your boot and eat memory.
The usual fix is digging through the registry or hidden folders. And if you delete the wrong thing, it’s gone.
How about you? Do you know everything that starts when you sign in?
AddToStartUp shows you the whole list in one window, and lets you switch things off without deleting them. 😊
New in version 1.2.0: a Restart All button that closes and relaunches every enabled startup item for you.

Switch Off, Not Delete
Click a program, then click Disable. It won’t start with Windows anymore.
Changed your mind? Click Enable and it’s back, exactly as it was.
Behind the scenes, registry entries are safely remembered. Startup-folder shortcuts move into a DisabledStartup folder.
Nothing gets lost.
Hold Ctrl or Shift to select several programs and change them all at once.
Restart Every Startup Item With One Button
Ever change a setting and want all your startup tools to start fresh? Or have a few of them act up after a long day?
Click Restart All. AddToStartUp closes every enabled item and launches it again.
Here’s what it does (and doesn’t do):
- Asks first. You see the list of items before anything closes.
- Closes only what it should. It matches each item’s own script or program path, so your other scripts keep running.
- Skips the junk. Duplicates, disabled items, and entries with a missing file are left alone.
- Tells you how it went. A pop-up shows how many restarted. If one fails, the error is copied to your clipboard.
It sure beats hunting through Task Manager and relaunching things one at a time. 🚀
Every Startup Program in One List
AddToStartUp looks in both places Windows hides startup programs for your account:
- The registry Run key (shown as Reg)
- Your Startup folder of shortcuts (shown as Folder)
Each row shows the program’s status, its full path, and the Publisher who made it.
Type in the filter box to find a program fast. Double-click a row to run it right now.
What the Icons Mean
| Icon | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green check | Enabled, and the program file exists. All good. |
| Grey | Disabled. Switched off, ready to turn back on. |
| Question mark | The program file is missing. A broken entry to fix or delete. |
| ⚠ Unknown publisher | No publisher info. Worth a second look if you don’t recognize it. |
Back Up Before You Change Anything
Click Export to save a snapshot of your whole startup list.
If something goes wrong later, click Import to bring it back.
You can also Add a new program to startup, or edit and delete entries you don’t need.
Want to see scheduled tasks, services, and system-wide startup entries too? Check out Autostart Manager.
What’s in the Download
- V2 folder: AddToStartUp.exe (version 1.2.0, ready to run), the AutoHotkey v2 source, and the User Guide as HTML and PDF
- V1 folder: the original AutoHotkey v1 version, as source and exe
To run a script instead, you need AutoHotkey v2 (or v1 for the V1 folder). Keep the lib and res folders next to it.
Get AddToStartUp
AddToStartUp is $4.99. You get the exe, the source, and the User Guide.
One thing I’ve learned: a fast PC is mostly about what you DON’T let run.
Take two minutes, switch off what you don’t need, and enjoy the faster boot. ⚡
