Bring Window to Mouse: Hotkey Moves the Active Window to Your Cursor

Ever had a window open on a monitor you can’t see? Or one that landed off the edge of the screen?

It happens to me most when I remote into another machine. The program is running, I just can’t get to it.

Bring Window to Mouse is an AutoHotkey v2 script that fixes that with one hotkey. Press it and the active window jumps to wherever your mouse is. 😊

One Hotkey, Active Window Under Your Mouse

The first time you run it, a small Assign Hotkey window opens. Pick a key combo, tick the Win box if you want the Windows key in it, and click Apply.

From then on, pressing that hotkey moves the active window so its top-left corner sits at your mouse pointer. No dragging, no Alt+Space tricks.

If nothing is active you get a short notification instead of a surprise.

Change your mind later: the tray menu has a Preferences item that reopens the hotkey window. The current hotkey is shown right in the menu.

Or Pick From a List of Open Windows

Sometimes the window you want isn’t the active one. For that there is a second mode.

Tick Display list of all running program in the tray menu. Now the same hotkey pops up a list at your mouse instead:

  • Every open window with its program icon, exe name and title
  • Sorted by title so you can scan it fast
  • Double-click a row and that window gets activated, restored if it was minimized, and moved to where your mouse was

Untick the item and you’re back to the one-hotkey mode.

Who This Helps

  • Multi-monitor desks: stop chasing a dialog that opened on the far screen
  • Remote control sessions: pull a window onto the one monitor you can actually see
  • Laptop users who undock: windows that remember a monitor you unplugged come back with one key

What’s in the Download

  • Bring Window To Mouse.exe: ready to run, no AutoHotkey install needed
  • Bring Window To Mouse.ahk: the full AutoHotkey v2 source
  • lib folder: the NotifyV2, ScriptObject and window list files it uses

Your hotkey and the list-mode setting are saved to Settings.ini next to the program.

Requirements: Windows. The exe runs on its own. To run the script instead you need AutoHotkey v2, with the lib folder next to it.

Small script, but it has saved me from more than one “where did that window go” moment. ⚡
